Whitney overdosed in a hotel bathroom. Amy died of alcohol poisoning. Lil Wayne admitted to his codeine addiction. It’s all too common that celebrity musicians — people whom so many of us admire, respect and aspire to be — die of drug overdoses.

It’s no surprise that the music world’s rich and famous are some of the most susceptible to addiction; they have money to spend, loved ones to miss on the road and lifestyles that can often seem fleeting, superficial and supportive of substance use.

Rockers In Recovery is a really cool organization that works in conjunction with the RIR Band, helps entertainers with drug and alcohol problems enter treatment programs.

“Those who work with celebrities say the key to dealing with drug abuse is early intervention, effective treatment and a support system. They say recovery is a lifelong process.”

That’s all true! But early intervention, effective treatment and a support system is key for any addict, whether or not he or she is famous.

If your a musician suffering from addiction, or a family member of a musician in need of help. Please feel free to contact us at 866-359-6320 or email us at
ts@rockersinrecovery.com

When someone in a family has an addiction, the whole family suffers. Family members often fall into the destructive habit of enabling the addict among them. Without help, families fall into dysfunction and everyone is affected. Family members need support too.

Embarrassed by Having a Family Member with an Addiction

When parents, siblings, or children of addicts realize that their loved one has a problem, they can have a wide range of reactions. The most common thought at first is “What will others think?”. In our society, we are so proud that we don’t ever want to admit mistakes or problems that come into our lives, and we constantly want to maintain the status quo. There is such a stigma associated with addiction right now that family members often don’t want to tell anyone for fear that they will be looked down upon.

Enabling the Addict

Because family members are afraid to be honest and tell their family’s secret, they often try to manage the situation on their own. Spouses will start picking up the slack left behind by a substance-abusing partner, and assume all responsibilities of running the house and caring for the kids. Children of addicts become good at making excuses for their parent and making their life seem as normal as possible from the outside. Parents will argue and fight with their drug-abusing child behind closed doors, but will put on a good front when others are around.

When families enable an addict, they only make the problem worse. Addiction can be overcome, but it takes a good program led by professionals to really work. The first thing families should do is find a good treatment facility for their loved one. Then, families should make sure to heal themselves also.

Healing the Family

Living with an addict is a struggle, and families don’t have to go through it alone, as so many try to do. “It isn’t that (family members) are dumb,” intervention expert David Lee said. “They’re stuck. They’re trapped between fear, hope, sympathy and guilt.” (1)

There are many programs that help families recover together through therapy and counseling and help them deal with their underlying issues. In order for the addict to heal, their family needs to heal and the relationship needs to be repaired.

Support groups are a great way for family members to meet and gain strength from other families who understand the struggles, the fear, the pain, and the embarrassment of living with an addict. Groups like Al-Anon and Alateen can be found gathering across the country to assist families of addicts. Family members should not give in and enable their loved ones to continue in their addiction; they need to break the cycle and get help for themselves and their entire family.

Resource for Families of Addicts

Treatment Solutions is unlike any other approach to addiction recovery. Through our relationships with the nation’s premier treatment facilities and addiction professionals across the country, we make the arrangements and handle the details so our clients can focus on one thing – their recovery.

Call Toll Free - 866-245-3206

www.treatmentsolutions.com/?cpao=304

Green Sets the Scene

We are all looking for a way to find environmentally friendly alternatives to everyday life. When it comes to your home there should be no difference. This particular post will be focused on efficient heaters and cooling units. This is something we can all relate to because we either live where it’s hot or its cold. If you have a sophisticated heating and cooling system in your basement or anywhere in your home, chances are you are spending way too much on energy bills and that unit is nothing close to “green”.

Most units made before the year 2005 use to much energy than it needs to. Let’s talk about a few new models that will save you money in the long run and keep our mother earth around a little longer. Brands like Amana and Energy Star focus on saving energy with their products.

Saving Money

Other companies have jumped on the ban wagon as well and all you have to do is shop around. Not to mention, these “green” additions or alterations to your home will save you tons of money on your bills. Using less energy means a significantly lower bill, who doesn’t like the sound of saving money?

Now, if you live in a state such as New York or New Jersey where some homes do not come with central AC, there are individual units that fit the bill as well. For apartment dwellers a good “green” tip is to set your AC or Heat to automatic and leave it around 75 degrees F in the summer and 68 degrees F in the winter.

More “green” coming soon

Believe it or not, and automatic setting uses less energy in most cases because if you leave you AC off all day, to cool your home back down will take twice as much energy than to have it cool once it reaches a baseline line temperature throughout he home. More “green” coming soon.

Sumber Inc.

954.665.3401.

Website - www.Sumberconstruction.com

Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/SumberInc

Twitter- https://twitter.com/#!/Sumberinc954

What Are the Latest Online Listener Habits?

New research shows that the online listening market is still growing at measurable rates. According to our latest numbers, more and more traditional A...

New research shows that the online listening market is still growing at measurable rates. According to our latest numbers, more and more traditional AM/FM listeners are shifting their listening habits to take advantage of the ability to listen online at work and on the go, via the huge proliferation of smartphones and mobile player apps. In addition to the shift in listening times, listeners have also shown a high interest in social media tie-ins, leaning on the immense popularity of sites like Facebook and Twitter, which more and more radio broadcasters are embracing.

Average listener time is also higher than traditional ‘in car’ listening times, since today’s listener spends more time at their desk, or with their phone, than they spend in their car. Our listeners tend to like streams that are easy to find, easy to use, and can be either embedded or bookmarked. The highest dwell-time listener vehicle is the desktop player, with talk format listener times running longer than music.

Another trend we are seeing is the expectance and the acceptance of advertising by the average listener. Any successful web property today is monetized by advertising.

Whether it is a video pre-roll, like you see on most news pages and sites like Hulu and YouTube, or rich-media banner ads, advertising is an integral part of online success. Listeners have come to expect ads and for the most part, are not turned off, or turned away by them.

Some latest traditional online user facts;
78% of adults are now using the internet on a daily basis
92% use multiple means to get their daily news
55% of users state that it is now easier to get news than it was 5 years ago
65% of internet users have paid for online content
62% of online teens get their news online
48% of interent users over the age of 35 use a social media site
25% of smartphone owners use their phone as opposed to going online
72% go online just looking for something to do, watch, or listen to But hey, like you really needed more proof that streaming your broadcast is a necessity today? Of course not, and the latest facts from the online world show that more and more people of all age groups are using the internet in a variety of new ways. By having a strong online and mobile streaming presence, you are placing yourself in the mainstream of the shifting technology.

As always, we are committed to staying on the bleeding edge of the digital revolution, bringing you more ways to innovate, adapt and excel in today’s highly competitive listening arena.

For more information contact call 954-826-4920 or email
john@rockersinrecovery.com or check out the media kit for stats.

Treatment Solutions Network is unlike any other approach to addiction recovery. Through our relationships with the nation's premier treatment facilities and addiction professionals across the country, we make the arrangements and handle the details so our clients can focus on one thing: their recovery.

Treatment Solutions Network has the advantage of not being tied to a specific facility, we only accept facilities within our network which meet our above industry standards; offer effective long term community based addiction treatment and have flexible payment options from low cost self pay to a wide variety of insurance plans.

We have a large selection of independent addiction treatment facilities. This has distinct advantages:
Our unique relationships allow us to offer faster admissions, privacy guarantees and payment options not found elsewhere.

We have our own standards of success. To be part of our network, facilities must operate above industry standards. All facilities accepted within our network must offer the highest levels of care available and offer a minimum 30 day treatment program for those who need it.

We provide client advocates who will be in constant contact with the person in treatment and act as liaisons between the family, the facility and the client, if desired. Because we recognize the impact addiction has on the entire family, we place special emphasis on family involvement throughout the treatment process.

Rapid Response. Our unique approach allows our clients to be presented with a plan outlining treatment option(s) quickly by answering a few questions. Once a decision on a facility is made, reservations and travel arrangements are made immediately. This saves additional stress and delay in a time when you or your family member needs immediate action.
This approach coupled with our highly knowledgable treatment consultants and call center representatives allows us to truly work with you. We take your treatment needs, your financial capabilities and your recovery goals and build a personalized plan. We are here to offer viable solutions during this difficult time. Best of all we offer these services at no cost to our clients.

Our network approach takes the pressure off busy addiction professionals, assuring them that their patients will be well cared for throughout their course of treatment.

Because we recognize the impact addiction has on the entire family, we place special emphasis on family involvement throughout treatment. Treatment Solutions Network also offers specialized adolescent addiction treatment.

If you would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to give us a call, any time day or night, or fill out our confidential help form.

Our Mission
The Mission of Treatment Solutions Network is to provide every individual we come in contact with the opportunity to achieve a better way of life through recovery. If the individual is seeking treatment for a substance abuse or a dual diagnosis problem, our goal is to find services which match their needs and can realistically be obtained with their resources.

Ken Seeley is an interventionist and author. He is best known for his appearances on the A&E reality show, Intervention.

Certified by the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Interventionists, Seeley himself has been sober since 1989. Since then, he has worked full-time in the business of recovery.
Seeley is the author of Face It and Fix It, published by HarperOne in 2009. The book is about overcoming the denial that leads to common addictions while bringing guidance to those struggling with addiction. Face It and Fix It has been said to "leave you with a greater sense of self-awareness and the skills you need to both improve your relationships and to live the life you deserve".

Seeley has remained involved, professionally and personally, in recovery since 1989. He is a Level II Board Registered Interventionist, and works to save lives every day as the founder of Intervention-911, a service specializing not just in interventions but also in finding appropriate treatment centers for each kind of addict.

Seeley's remarkable knowledge and unique perspective have made him a go-to expert on the subject of addiction and intervention with the media, where he's a regular contributor for CNN,[6] MSNBC, NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC, and many others. Seeley was one of three featured interventionists on the Emmy Award Winning Television Series Intervention on A&E.

Ricky Byrd – Guitarist, Singer, Songwriter

Lotta dues Jim, Lotta dues. That’s a line from a play about Lenny Bruce, and man oh man ain’t that the truth!!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining! I’ve had an unbelievable career so far and I’m very grateful.

Imagine a 13 year old sitting in his bedroom with his first guitar that “almost” stays in tune. He’s dreaming big dreams, hoping someday……you know the rest!

Well I got my wish. I’ve traveled the world with Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, had a couple of hit records and played guitar for two of my favorites–Roger Daltrey and Ian Hunter. I’ve also had the damn good fortune to have shared a stage with everyone from Jimmy Page,
Leslie West, Steve Marriott to Rufus Thomas (I got to “Walk the Dog”)

I’ve had artists who I love and respect cover songs I’ve written ,and even got to decorate a wall in Byrdland with a few gold and platinum records.

Nice huh?
Problem is I’m not the kind that can rest on my laurels (you know how painful that can be!).

This is now and now I’m a solo artist–playing my songs, making my music and fighting my battles!

To be honest I’m feeling a little punchy from all the fighting.

But I promise you this…they’’ll have to carry me out of the ring still swingin’ and still singin’.

Let’s face it the music business (what’s left of it) is not for the faint of heart. it can break your spirit and leave you bitter.”It was you Charlie…you shoulda watched out for me. I coulda been a contender!”

Sorry, I had a Brando moment!.

Anyway as the saying goes… you buttered your bread now you gotta sleep in it…or something like that.

Where was I? Oh yeah

These days I have no illusions or expectations other than making the coolest music I can and have fun doing it.

So keep your eyes and ears open cause sooner or later I’ll be coming to your town. It might be a stadium, a theatre, a club or maybe even a coffeehouse, but you can bet the farm I’ll have a big ass grin on my face and be happy to be there.

See you in the trenches, Ricky

About 12 Step Music Fest

12 Step Music Fest is a campout for ALL 12 step fellowships. It will be held November 3-6, 2011 at Sugarloaf Key (mile marker 20) KOA Campground in the Florida Keys. The entire campground will be closed to the public.

It's a mini Woodstock, minus the drugs and alcohol, but add meetings and fellowship! It is being produced by No Matter What Productions, a not for profit, 501 c 3 charity. Our mission is to help people suffering from all forms of addiction to recover and become acceptable, responsible and productive members of society. Our vision is to eradicate the stigma "Once an addict always an addict."

We are promoting music, fun and harmony among fellowships. We will have floating meetings, yes meetings in the ocean, bring your rafts and noodles!! There will be 3 - 24 hour marathon tents for all fellowships and special interest meetings.

There will be a childrens tent with crafts and activities all day as well. The KOA has a beach and volleyball, pool and hot tub, as well as showers and bathrooms. Food and recovery merchandise vendors will be on site as well.

We will have bands playing on the main stage throughout the weekend.

A talent show will be held in the Coffee House Saturday.

Also in the Coffee House there will be solos and duos playing all day and night.

Due to campground capacity we can only sell 2000 tickets, so please book early.

THIS IS A DRUG, ALCOHOL AND GAMBLING FREE EVENT.
Violators will be removed from the park and no refunds will be given.
