There are times I’ve lost focus of this. Letting the fear and resentments of the day clog the channel to my spirit can stifle my helping others. So getting some alone time and looking at my behaviors, my attitudes, my motives, and how I’m treating others is very important to my recovery. One of the ways I get grounded, I Listen to music.

Videos like Tim McGraw’s – Humble And Kind, Written by Lori Mckenna is one of those songs that helps me to see what’s important, the  song gives me hope, and it also gives me a kind of sober running beacon in real time to check against my self-centered desires. Music is one of my recovery tools and videos like Humble and Kind helps me to ask myself, how am I living my life today?

One part of the lyrics I love the most is;
“Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why:
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind”

Check out the video, let me know your thoughts?

Tim McGraw – The country star gets candid about his past dependence on “liquid courage” and what was at stake if he didn’t get sober. Huffington Post – 08/26/2015

“You can come up with a million excuses why you drink too much,” he said. “Lack of confidence, the success that came so quickly, and then some of the things you didn’t realize was trauma, I guess, back when you were 11… I think the older you get, the more you start realizing those things.”

As time went on, McGraw came to the harsh realization for himself.

“It got to the point where I knew that I drank too much,” he said. “I knew that it was affecting my personal relationships, it was affecting my professional relationships, it was affecting my family. It was turning me into a person that I didn’t want to be… I was at a point where I could lose everything that I had in my life, first and foremost, my family. It [was] time to stop. And I stopped.”

Sober since 2008, the night before embarking on another tour, McGraw said he had his last drink. “ I flew to Florida that morning from being wasted the night before, and started that tour. Haven’t drank since.” Read more @ How Tim McGraw’s Drinking Nearly Cost Him Everything
